A Brief Overview
The Registered Radiologist Assistant is responsible for performing procedures under on-site and/or direct physician supervision ensuring appropriate quality patient care and evidence-based practices are observed. Patients may include both children and adult populations.
What You Will Do
- After demonstrating competency and under the guidance, supervision, and discretion of the supervising physician, perform procedures including, but not limited to: fluoroscopic procedures (barium swallow, follow through, enema, speech pathology studies, cholangiograms, gastrostomies), fluoro-guided joint injections, lumbar puncture/myelogram, arthrograms, and any other procedures the radiologist deems necessary.
- Evaluate the daily schedule of procedures with the supervising physician and determine where their skills will be utilized.
- Assess and monitor patients as appropriate.
- Verify appropriate procedural documentation has been obtained prior to the procedure.
- Evaluate medical images, review preliminary reports and images with a supervising physician and pre-populate technical reports that will be reviewed and signed off by the supervising physician. (THESE REPORTS CANNOT BE SEEN IN PATIENT RECORD)
- Assess and evaluate the physiological and psychological responsiveness of each patient.
- Participate in patient management, including prescriptive acquisition following review with the supervising physician.
- Operate fluoroscopy equipment as required for appropriate procedure completion.
- Administer and/or order intravenous medication and contrast media under the supervision of a physician and record documentation in the medical record.
- Maintain values congruent with the Code of Ethics, as well as adhering to national, institutional, and/or departmental standards, policies, and procedures regarding the standards of care for patients.
- Maintain patient modesty and comfort, perform basic care functions, report any change in patient condition or behavior, respect confidentiality of patient records, and maintain professional demeanor.
- Assess and identify signs and symptoms of abuse and/or neglect for all populations served.
Additional Responsibilities
- Encourage patients to be active partners in their care to prevent harm or injury.
- Assists with other departmental procedures as needed, such as performing x-rays, when able.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Complies with all policies and standards.

- Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
Qualifications Education - Graduate of an ARRT-approved Radiology Assistant program (MS RRA) (Required) and
Work Experience - 1+ years of experience as a Radiologist Assistant (Preferred)
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities - Able to demonstrate quality patient care (Required proficiency)
- Good working knowledge of a variety of patient care devices and equipment, computers, applications, and selected office equipment (Required proficiency)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills (Required proficiency)
Licenses and Certifications - Registered Radiology Assistant (RRA) in good standing (Required Upon Hire) and
- Registered Technologist Radiography (ARRT-R) in good standing (Required Upon Hire) and
- Current license as a Radiology Assistant with the State Medical Board of Ohio (Required Upon Hire) and
- Current State of Ohio Radiographer license (Required Upon Hire) and
- Basic Life Support (BLS) (Required Upon Hire) and
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Required by Ohio; Ohio Revised Code Section 4774.03 (Required Upon Hire)
