Position WSP's Cultural Resources Management Team has offices in Louisville, Lexington, Kansas City, Ballwin, and Jefferson City. We are seeking On-Call Field Archaeologists for a long-term Phase III archaeological data recovery project at five multi-component Pre-Contact archaeological sites. The sites are close together and contain components dating from the Late Archaic through the Late Pre-Contact periods. Experience on Pre-Contact sites and with identification and excavation of Pre-Contact features is particularly desirable. This is an hourly, on-call position. Hourly rates are competitive, based on North American CRM experience and regional archaeological experience. Candidates local to Arkansas, Missouri, eastern Oklahoma, and eastern Kansas are ideal, but all qualified applicants will be considered. WSP also has ongoing Phase I, II, and III work in other states with additional upcoming work. Responsibilities Assist with multiple Phase III data recovery projects (with additional work at Phase I and II levels), including: archaeological test unit and shovel test excavation; excavation of cultural features; recovery and identification of archaeological artifacts and other materials; use archaeological field forms to record data such as type and number of artifacts, soil color (Munsell) and soil textures, and other relevant information. Work effectively as part of a team; Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures; Strictly abide by WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol and harassment policies. Minimum Qualifications Undergraduate degree in anthropology / archaeology or a closely related field; Archaeological field school or similar archaeological field experience; Self-motivated, physically able to conduct all aspects of fieldwork in all weather conditions, and able to follow instructions. Preferred Qualifications Prior experience with Pre-Contact archaeological sites in Arkansas, eastern Oklahoma, and the surrounding region; Pre-Contact lithic artifact identification and analysis.
