General Statement of Duties
The purpose of this assignment program is to prepare high school students for careers in dental care and other associated medical fields through classroom instruction and work-based learning opportunities such as clinicals, internships, or externships with local dental facilities and businesses in the local area. A CTE Dental Assistant instructor will expertly teach a comprehensive dental curriculum, facilitate hands-on and workplace learning, prepare students for certification, evaluate and guide student progress, ensure legal compliance, and foster leadership through CTSO involvement-all while maintaining current credentials and field expertise.
This is an 11 month /239-day instructor assignment.
The teacher must have the ability to plan, organize, and deliver instruction that meets individual and group needs. Strong written and oral communication skills and basic computer proficiency are required.
Essential Duties
The physical demands of this assignment include the ability to sit and stand for extended periods and the ability to lift and move items weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Collaborates to support the program's national and state accreditation while staying current with evolving dental techniques, regulations, and technology.
- Reports to work on time in adherence with the designated employee contract calendar.
- Teach core units in dental assisting-medical emergencies, coronal polishing, oral pathology, dental radiology, nutrition, schedule IV drugs/pharmacology, and advanced lab techniques.
- Assess student performance via practical exams, lab skills, written assignments, and clinical competencies.
- Ensure OSHA and dental board regulations are met, including infection control and legal compliance.
- Monitor class attendance and discipline, ensuring a structured and safe learning environment.
- Performs duties in accordance with the growth measures and metrics outlined in the Teacher Performance Standards.
- Establishes appropriate boundaries with students and consistently endeavors to serve as a role model.
- Communicates with colleagues, school administration, students, and parents in a timely and professional manner.
- Carries out all responsibilities in compliance with the employee conduct policy detailed in Chapter Four of the HCPS policy manual.
- Maintains a learning environment that is safe, reasonable, orderly, and inclusive.
- Aligns the curriculum with state standards and industry certification requirements.
- Formally plans daily instruction in a reflective and collaborative manner, consistently assessing the effectiveness of instructional strategies and students' academic progress and growth.
- Participates in a variety of activities to keep professional skills, curriculum, and instructional methods current.
- Presents curriculum in alignment with state health board standards.
- Prepares students for certification exams.
- Models the professional and ethical behaviors of licensed healthcare professionals.
- Develops partnerships with local health agencies and businesses to support hands-on clinical learning opportunities.
- Communicates effectively with students, parents, community members, and school personnel.
- Attends work daily, remaining engaged and on task.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Designs and updates lesson plans and instructional materials.
- Teaches and enforces safety protocols in laboratory settings.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Hold a current BOD license as a dentist or possess a dental hygienist certification. National certification is accepted.
- Have two years of successful, fulltime (or equivalent) occupational experience within the past five years in the teaching specialty being sought.
- Health occupations certificate or an associate degree teaching specialty being sought.
Additional Information
This position is for the 2026-2027 school year with a July 30, 2026 start date. Minimum annual starting salary based on 2025-26 SY Rates*:
- $ 66,240.11 (Bachelors)
- $ 69,419.81 (Masters)
*The annual salary stated in this posting is based on the 2025-2026 adopted financial plan. The annual salary for the coming school year will be determined once the 2026-2027 school year financial plan is approved and adopted in the Spring of 2026.
